Ministries

The Springfield Church of Christ works to be a light for Christ in a world of darkness and we have an enormous task ahead of us.  But God is faithful.  He has gifted this congegation with the talents and skills necessary to do His work in our community.

The purpose of this page is to:

  • Identify areas where people can use their spiritual gifts to fulfill the needs of the Body of Christ.
  • Show the scope of our ministries so that the congregation can gain a clearer understanding of the ministry system.
  • Demonstrate how God has blessed and provided for us and to apreciate our growth in relationship to Jesus.

Benevolence - vacant (Roger Nourse, Elder)
The purpose of the Benevolence Ministry is to assist SCC families with needs in the areas of financial support, transportation, groceries, etc.
 
Those that this ministry help are kept in the strictest of confidence.
 
Areas of Responsibility
  • Take care of members in the congregation who are in financial need.
  • Assist families within the church in obtaining goods when needed.
 
 
Building & Grounds - Mike Hedrick

 

The purpose of the Building & Grounds Ministry is to up-keep the entire church facility and supporting systems such as HVAC, water treatment, etc.
 
Areas of Responsibility
  • Baptistery maintenance:  cleaning and filling
    .
  • Church bus:  maintenance, insurance and scheduling.
  • Church setup crews:  setup and take down for events.
  • General building operations and maintenance.
  • Janitorial services:  cleaning and schedules.
  • Landscaping:  mowing, flower beds and tree planting.
  • Parking lot:  paving, striping, traffic control and snow removal.
  • Handyman type repairs:  basic repairs and painting.
 
 
 
Cleaning & Coordinating - Donna Fry

 

Cleaning of the church and event coordination.

 
 
Areas of Responsibility
  • Cleaning of the church.
  • Weddings, funerals, anniversaries and other special events.
 

 

Christian Education - Peggy Myers (Brad Brouhard, Elder)

 

The purpose of the Christian Education Ministry is to provide opportunities to draw closer to Christ by increasing understanding of and excitement for God's word.
 
Areas of Responsibility
  • Sunday school classes for nursery to 5th grade and adults:  curriculum, teachers, attendance and records.
  • Butler Springs Camp:  promotion, sign-ups, scholarships and camp sponsors.
  • Children's worship:  curriculum, teachers, attendance and records.
  • Teachers:  recruitment, training, and appreciation.
  • Vacation Bible School.
  • Children's choir.
 
 
Drama Ministry - Rhonda Zimmers

 

Plays and dramas performed at the church.

 
 
Areas of Responsibility
  • Play production.
  • Costumes and props.
 

 

 
Student Ministry - Shane Ellett (Brad Brouhard, Elder)

 

 

The Student Ministry exists to reach non-Christian students and connect them to other Christians, to help students grow in their faith and relationship with Jesus Christ, and to discover their ministry while bringing honor to God.  Visit the Common Ground Student website.
 
Areas of Responsibility
  • Youth groups.
  • Youth activities.
  • Service projects.
  • Graduation Sunday.
  • Youth Sundays.
  • Jr. & Sr. High Sunday School classes:  curriculum and teachers.
  • Jr. & Sr. High Bible studies.
  • Organizing youth/mission trips.

 

 

Evangelism Ministry - Bill Warax (Gavin Patch, Deacon)

 

The purpose of the Evangelism Ministry is to spread God's Word and the truth of the gospel to non-believers and help them become Christians and develop a lifestyle of following Christ.
 
Areas of Responsibility
  • Calling on visitors.
  • Home Bible studies with prospective Christians.
  • Mentoring programs.
  • Training for evangelism.
  • Preaching.
 

 

Fellowship Ministry - David Bailey (Mark Myers, Deacon)

 

The purpose of the Fellowship Ministry is to provide opportunities for the congregation to grow closer to one another so that they can develop lasting Christian friendships.
 
Areas of Responsibility
  • Meals:  all chuch dinners, funeral and return from hospital meals, Easter Sunrise breakfast and new born baby.
  • Sunday night out reach recreation.
  • Wedding planning and coordination.
  • Kitchen help:  cooks, clean-up crews.
  • Kitchen stocking:  paper products, cleaning supplies, silver/plastic ware.
  • Maintaining church decorations
  • Recreation:  softball league, golf outings, etc.
 

 

Finance Ministry - Chris Metcalf & Roger Maxton (Tom Ruetenik, Elder)

 

The Finance Ministry exists to serve the church body and our Lord Jesus Christ by providing good stewardship of the resources God blesses us with.
 
Areas of Responsibility
  • Budget forecasting.
  • Counting and recording offerings.
  • Distributing offering envelopes.
  • Distributing annual tithing statements.
  • Management fo the Church's accounting functions.
  • Regular financial reports.
 

 

Heart to Heart - Sharon Jennings (Roger Maxton, Deacon)

 

The purpose of the Heart-to-Heart Ministry is to encourage the women of SCC to participate in the meetings, special events, and service projects offered throughout the year.  They seek to provide meaningful programs and activities that will inspire and challenge each lady to live a God honoring life, and to challenge each lady to find a ministry to use her gifts and talents for the Lord.
 
Areas of Responsibility
  • Women's ministry organization of events.
  • Women's retreats.
  • Baby/Bridal shower committee.
  • Ladies day organization.
 

 

Involvement Ministry - Rick Bard (Rick Bard, Deacon)

 

The purpose of the Involvement Ministry is to plug people into ministries where they can use their gifts to bring glory to God.
 
 
Areas of Responsibility
  • Current issues and community awareness.
  • Pictorial directory.
  • New member pictures
  • Ministry fair.
  • Ministry team support.
  • Plugging in new members into areas of service.
 

 

Library - Donna Fry (Adam Kiess, Deacon)

 

The purpose of the Library Ministry is to maintain and increase the library at the church.  This ministry seeks to bring attention to Christian literature for members of the congregation.
 
Areas of Responsibility
  • Maintaining library.
  • Researching new resources.
  • Promoting books within the congregation.
  • Archival ministry.
 


Missions Ministry - Beau Nichols (Howard Whitacre, Elder)
The purpose of the Missions Ministry is to allocate the funds given by the church to various mission organizations around the world.
 
 
 
Areas of Responsibility
  • Allocation of funds for missions.
  • Communicating betweencongregation and missions supported.
  • Education of congregation regarding missions.
  • Encouraging congregation members to becomeinvolved in short term missions.
  • Planning and setup for annual missions month.
 

Multimedia Ministry - John Stickney (Roger Nourse, Elder) 
The purpose of the Multimedia Ministry is to purchase and maintain all computer related technology within the church such as computers, network systems, copiers, printers, and the church web site.
 
 
 Areas of Responsibility
  • Maintaining and updating all computers and related systems.
  • Maintaining and updating internet website.
  • Purchasing and maintaining of all hardware and software.
  • Maintaining church web site.
 

Prayer Ministry - Kathy Ruetenik (Adam Kiess, Deacon)
The purpose of the Prayer Ministry is to increase prayer within the congregation.
 
 
 
Areas of Responsibility
 

Senior Saints - Jack Kinsler
The purpose of the Senior Saints Ministry is to promote Christian fellowship andprovide entertainment for the Elderly of SCC.
 
 
 
Areas of Responsibility
  • Organize monthly lunches.
  • Organize trips andoutings.
     
 

Small Groups Ministry - Gavin Patch, Deacon
Our vision is to become a church where nobody stands alone.  We are striving to provide the church with as many groups as are needed.  If you are interested in joining a small group please contact the church office.
 
 
Areas of Responsibility
  • To organzie the small groups.
  • Assist members and non-members seeking a small group.
      
 
 
Worship Ministry - David & Janette Bailey
The purpose of the Worship Ministry is to provide worship services that bring glory to God and draw people to Him.
 
 
 
Areas of Responsibility
  • General format and style of services.
  • Music selection, choir and instruments.
  • Operations of audio/visual equipment.
 


Worship Support - Rick Bard (Rick Bard, Deacon)
The purpose of the Worship Support Ministry is to provide everything needed for a Sunday service and to ensure that all aspects of a worship service run effectively and smoothly.
 
 
Areas of Responsibility
  • Baptismal robe cleaning.
  • Baptism attendants.
  • Communion setup and preparation.
  • In home communion.
  • Greeters and Welcome Center staffing.
  • Offering and communion servers.
  • Ushers.
