Our Church Leadership seeks to glorify God by advancing the Kingdom of God by promoting effective and faithful practice of Biblical leadership in the church, the Springfield community, and the world.  Our leaders are grounded in faith, informed by knowledge, and exercised in effective practice and accountability.

ELDERS

SCC is led by a team of Elders, following the example set forth in Acts 20:28, Titus 1:5-9, and 1 Peter 5:1-6. The Elders serve for a term of three years, and each year the congregation affirms new Elders to fill the position of those who step down.  The team serves together to provide direction for SCC, and to minister to the body as shepherds.

Regular meetings are held on the first Mondays of each month at the church.  If you have any questions about SCC, or are in need of assistance through their ministry, you may contact them directly, or call the church office at 937.322.7207.  Should you send notes or e-mail please r
emember to include your name in any correspondence.

DEACONS

Deacons are spiritual servant leaders. The first deacons were spiritual men “full of the Spirit and wisdom” (Acts 6) and the qualities of deacons call for spiritual maturity (1 Timothy 3:8-13).  The difference between deacons’ and elders’ work is not that elders’ work is spiritual and deacons’ is menial. Rather, the difference is determined by giftedness. As Peter put it, some leaders have teaching gifts while others have serving gifts (1 Peter 4:10, 11). But all these are spiritual gifts intended for the “good of the body.” This suggests that deacons are also mentors and equippers for ministry.  In our context at least part of their role is to lead and equip those who care for buildings, budgets, personnel, and programs.

STAFF

Bill Warax - Senior Minister

Bill serves as a husband to his lovely wife Cheryl, father to his two daughters Emma Grace and Olivia Faith, and as senior minister of Springfield Church of Christ. Growing up in his hometown of Lexington, KY Bill always knew he’d be a minister in some capacity.  In those days he was an avid basketball and softball player who planned to serve in medical missions.  He began studies with the University of Kentucky, but God had other plans.

After meeting his wife Cheryl, Bill went on to graduate from Cincinnati Christian University (then Cincinnati Bible College) with two Bachelor of Arts Degrees, one in Christian Education and the other in Christian Ministry.  He then attended seminary classes at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School in Deerfield, IL and finished his Masters of Divinity Degree at Grace Theological Seminary in Winona Lake, IN.   During nearly twenty years of full-time ministry, Bill has served churches in Kentucky, Ohio, and Indiana before joining the SCC team.

Bill’s role as senior minister is to be the spiritual leader of the SCC family, the primary Bible teacher, and the communicator of SCC’s mission, vision, and values and provide the necessary leadership to the staff, ministries, and operations of the church to make them a reality. Bill’s passion is to see people grow to reach their full potential in becoming the person God created them to be. His vision is to partner with God to do something great in Springfield, OH - something so big that only God can receive the credit for it.

Mike Hawke - Missionary

SCC is a long time sponsor of  Mike and the One Tribe Ministry (OTM) that seeks to serve the lost of  Mozambique, Africa.  Mike and his wife Angie have three daughters:  Marcia, Abigail, and Leah.  OTM seeks to introduce  the lost to Jesus Christ through church planting, discipleship, Bible studies, and outreach.  While on furlough Mike has been an invaluable servant to the SCC family.
